The David Davenport Cup
The David Davenport Cup will be held in London's Portland Club on Sunday March 19th 2017.
This will be its inaugural year. Invitations have been sent out to all schools and children that have been helped by the David Davenport Trust. The event will be played as a duplicate pairs event. There will be prizes in all categories and age groups and the event will be played in a very relaxed fashion, directed by Simon Stocken. Patricia Davenport and Giles Hargreaves, our Trustees will be there to present prizes and oversee the smooth running of the event.
The Portland Club is reputedly the oldest card club in the world - founded some time before 1815 as the Stratford Club - it was given its present name in 1825. The Portland Club is the recognised authority on the games of whist and bridge. The Club meets in the Army and Navy Club in St. James's Square, London SW1. It is located on the corner of St james Square at 36-39 Pall Mall. The event will be held from 1pm - 5pm with refreshments and sandwiches provided.
We would like to thank The Portland Club for hosting this event - it would have meant a huge amount to David to see his legacy used to help children enjoy and learn bridge. We would also like to thank all the schools participating and the teachers and parents who are giving up their time to help make this a special event. Thank you especially to Giles Hargreaves and Patricia Davenport for their support.
